Xilloc wins Shell LiveWIRE Award - 12-15-2011

Creating patient-specific implants by means of a 3D-printer. The Maastricht based company Xilloc Medical has won the Shell Live Wire Award 2011 with this innovative technology. Minister Verhagen of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation awarded the prize for young and innovative entrepeneurship today.

"Entrepeneurs like Xilloc Medical prove that entrepeneurs with a technical background are a valuable asset for the Dutch Economy" , said minister Verhagen. "They do not only build companies with their ideas, they also find solutions to societal challenges like rising costs of healthcare."

True entrepeneurs
Xilloc Medical is a startup company that specialises in the delivery of patient-specific implants by means of a 3D-printer. Customised solutions limit the need for multiple interventions for patients. Not only does this improve the quality of life of a patient, but it also leads to a decrease in the cost of healthcare.

According to the jury, Xilloc distinguishes itself by providing a high-tech solution for a societal problem. Furthermore, the former students are true entrepeneurs with all the required skills. Their ideas are protected with patents and they developed a marketing concept within weeks. These are so convincing that the sales departments are regularly requested in telephone calls to the participants.

LiveWIRE
Shell LiveWIRE is a world-wide program to stimulate youth in becoming entrepeneurs. In the Netherlands, this training- and coaching program is conducted by Syntens, a governmental organisation that stimulates innovation in the small- and medium business sector. 300 young and innovative entrepeneurs with a technical background participate in LiveWIRE.
